We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) with a minimum of 6 years of professional experience, including direct involvement in government data projects. The ideal candidate will manage, optimize, and secure complex data environments spanning both legacy systems and modern cloud architectures.
This role offers remote flexibility but requires occasional onsite meetings in Washington, D.C, to support key project phases and collaboration.
Responsibilities:

Administer, monitor, and optimize databases across cloud-based (AWS) and on-premise environments.

Manage and maintain AWS RDS (Postgres), Redshift, MongoDB, DynamoDB, and other emerging platforms like Aurora.

Support ETL pipelines and metadata management through tools like Databricks, Informatica, and EFTU.

Collaborate with developers, QA, and data engineering teams to ensure efficient data flow, high availability, and system reliability.

Ensure database configurations align with government compliance, security, and governance standards.

Implement and manage access control policies and data masking solutions using Immuta and related tools.

Support legacy systems including DB2, COBOL for z/OS, and JCL.

Perform database backups, recovery, patching, upgrades, and regular health checks.

Document architecture, configurations, processes, and procedures for auditing and compliance purposes.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.

At least 6 years of experience as a DBA, including government project experience, preferably with the IRS.

Expertise in managing cloud-native and hybrid data environments.

Proficient in database performance tuning, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.

Knowledge of data governance, privacy, and access control in compliance-focused environments.

Strong SQL skills and scripting for automation and reporting.

Excellent communication skills and ability to document work for audit and operational readiness.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Immuta, Databricks, or Informatica EDC/Axon.

Familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, or other federal compliance frameworks.

Prior exposure to data warehouse architecture and analytics platforms.

Security clearance or eligibility for clearance preferred.
Work Environment:

Remote-friendly, with scheduled on-site presence in Washington, DC as required. Must be in the Washington DC metro area.
